Did you ever have braces as a child or teenager? I did and remembered it well. I was 15 years old and had a face full of freckles. Let me say that freckles and braces on a high school young girl won’t bring many smiles to her face.
I cried when I looked at myself in the mirror the first time with a mouth full of metal. Not because the braces hurt (although they did……a lot), but because of how I looked. Of course, my parents told me how beautiful I was and to remember it was only for a short few years. WHAT? A few short YEARS!!!! My life was going to be a complete wreck (or so I thought).
After my hysterical cry, I had a few friends visit, and they too tried to comfort me. Well, this didn’t help much either. However, the three years wearing them came and went and now I was to wear my retainer. I did what many a high school student does and tell my parents I had my retainer, but didn’t wear it.
Later in Life
Fast forward many years and putting two of our children through braces I began to think about what it would be like to straighten my teeth that had shifted because of my lack of wearing my retainer. I researched and discussed with my dentist about the Invisalign option and went to the orthodontist and had a consultation. Came out thinking I don’t want to spend that kind of money on myself (a typical Mom process of reflection), left and never went back.
There are options for adults
Now fast forward a few more years and technology, shopping online and the Internet has made things even more accessible. A friend of mine had posted about her success with a company that helped her straighten her teeth. I looked further into it, and as many of us do, I went online and found options and went further into my thoughts about why I should try to straighten my teeth “again” as an adult. After a lot of research and getting involved with a Facebook Group of many currently in the program I decided to follow the steps to see if I was a candidate. I WAS! WHOOOOO HOOOOO! Now the process began!
After submitting your information, they want you to send photos and impressions. They send you a kit to make the make them by yourself. It is a challenge for many, but because I have had impressions done many times I knew the process. My images, on the other hand, needed a few different entries. You then receive the email everyone waits for that says, “your smiles are coming.” Of course, they came when I was scheduled to be out of town. Upon our return, I started them almost immediately. Even though you’re encouraged to begin at night before bed, I didn’t. No, like a crazy person, I put the aligners in right before I had to speak at an event. WHAT IN THE WORLD WAS I THINKING????
After the event that night I came home in pain and wondered why I decided to go along with the process of straightening my teeth again. AT MY AGE! Ha! Now, nearly three months into a seven-month process I can still say those things to myself. In the end, I will be happy fixing the teeth my parents paid to straighten that I let go!
Feel better about yourself without breaking the bank
So the company is called Smile Direct, and it was nearly half the cost of Invisalign. As you can see, it’s a great savings option for anyone wanting to repair a costly mistake of not wearing their retainer. Or for someone who didn’t have the luxury of braces as a young child. If you want to learn more about what process I am using you can check it out here. Click Here
I love how they give you everything to get started. You never have to leave your home to see if you qualify. In particular markets, you may also be eligible for a free scan and whitening session. Not very expensive and worth it to me to get my teeth straight again. If you are like me and just want to know more, you may want to check it out.
